Homework ending 18/07/11 Angus

Post by Wendy Seddon » Fri Jul 08, 2011 4:15 pm

Angus

Now Angus is my cousin’s child, our Angus Riley Rudd,
I’ve rarely seen him neat and clean and not all caked in mud.
He has a heart of pure delight and charms me to the core,
and when he sings this little song, I always ask for more.

A diddy diddy dumpling do, a diddy diddy plum,
I’ll love you ‘til the stars go out, the dawn forgets to come.

He went to school, no tears were shed, he’d confidence to burn,
he duly sat with straightened back, would always wait his turn.
His teacher loved the cheeky imp she couldn’t help but favour,
and when he sang his little song, each bell-like note she’d savour.

A diddy diddy dumpling do, a diddy diddy plum,
I’ll love you ‘til the stars go out, the dawn forgets to come.

The years flew by and Angus grew, became an angry youth
and no-one knew just why he chose to turn his back on truth.
He broke our hearts, but more than that, he tore them from our chest.
I longed to hear his little song and hold him to my breast.

A diddy diddy dumpling do, a diddy diddy plum,
I’ll love you ‘til the stars go out, the dawn forgets to come.

A gun, a scream, a life near lost, police and legalese
all brought out devils to placate and daemons to appease.
He tethered them and paid his dues and so resumed his life,
and now he sings his little song just for his pretty wife.

A diddy diddy dumpling do, a diddy diddy plum,
I’ll love you ‘til the stars go out, the dawn forgets to come.

Loved your poem Wendy. Good to hear that things went fine for the wedding. How is your little poetry group going at Medowie. ?
