Here are two fairy tales, reversed, and squashed together.

Now, the prince of the peas had this thought in his head.

“I need a sweet pea for to share my fine bed.
I don’t want a rough one. She’ll scratch and she’ll scrape.

She must be most tender, with very round shape.”

So he set up a test for all peas far and wide
In his quest for a pea that would make a fine bride.

“A princess beneath my thick mattress I’ll place.
’Twill be less of a testing, and more of a race.
The pea that rolls furthest and fastest will win.”

He chuckled with glee, and he beamed a broad grin.

A rough pea there was (she was really dog),

Said, “I’ll just kiss this princess, and make her a frog.
The hump will be lower. The slope will be slight,
And soon with the prince I’ll be spending the night."

Well, this isn’t an ending that’s destined to please.
The frog sprang out sharply, and ate all the peas!
