Reflections

Reflections of a war untold,
Beyond the window pane,
Silently his heart grows old,
While silhouettes lie slain,

Coldness taking residence,
Within a tatty chair,
Boldness lost to abstinence,
Passion lost to glare,

His morning tears are falling,
While the coffee loses heat,
His bleeding mates are calling,
But again they’ll never meet,

Across the landscape lush and green,
Beyond the windows frames,
Polished mortars crow their sheen,
And call out soldiers names,

A bed sore now his only wound,
Though tended every day,
His life envisioned as impugned,
Resigned to waste away,

No visitors does he receive,
No one to hold his hand,
No family and none to grieve,
When he departs this land,

Forever outwardly he looks,
Beyond the window pane,
Greying hair and withered looks,
Compounding his disdain,

Nurses voices fading,
To a sombre droning hum,
Medics madly aiding,
But for him they never come,

Lost in his reflections,
Of a gloomy window pane,
Poignant disconnections,
Of his party lying slain.

G'day Neddy

What a great write this is....you have captured the feeling of the old warrior well IMO. And very sad it is - our old veterans memories should be captured on tape and/or written down and archived as part of our history - not that we seem to learn from it.

Think you have a typo here

A bed sore now his only wound,
Though tendered every day,

Should this be tended?

Great to have you join the mob and look forward to reading more of your work Neddy

Cheers

Maureen

That's bonza Neddy. You convey emotion without being 'saccharin.' great stuff. A big welcome to the site. I surely hope we'll be seeing more from your pen.
