Here you go poets. This is the winning poem for the 2012 Graham Fredriksen poetry prize run by North Pine Poets. It is one of my early poems and was my very first attempt at ABAB rhyme and I had only been writing poetry maybe 3 months at the time. The poem received a Commended at Bundaberg in 2011 and 2nd in the Australian Written Championships at Morisset in 2011. I made three very minor changes to the poem to improve the metre before placing it in this competition.

The poem is based on my experience at the Australian War Memorial many years at the sounding of the Last Post at sunset.
