Company - Present Arms

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Thu Oct 06, 2011 8:07 am

Wrote this when yet another young bloke was bought back through the Amberley Air Base - such a waste of young lives yet again and I ask - For what? These young blokes are bloody heroes as are all the men and women still fighting over there today - as an Australian I am so proud of them, as a Mother I want them home.

COMPANY - PRESENT ARMS.

The company you keep is silent – the Southern Cross flutters and snaps on its halyard.
Stolen dreams of a generation - now just faces in the photographs that line the walls,
will never come to fruition. Childhood plans will never see the light of day.
The progression of lies continues, inside the circle, outside the circle.

The organizers know the truth but the contestants know only the dream,
that is becoming a nightmare without end. A nightmare of desert sands
and heat, veiled faces, veiled threats. A nightmare of gigantic proportions
where the company you keep grows daily but stays silent beneath their white crosses.
