As I will be out of action tomorrow here is my Remembrance Day poem;
Battle Poem of the Anzacs.
©Mal McLean
Look to the east in the morning,
look for the first light of dawn,
then look for the cross of your fathers
though the standard be battered and torn.
Look to the west in the evening,
look to the last light of day,
and look to the cross of your fathers
as you carry your comrades away.
Though mortars and bombs are bursting
and shrapnel and ricochets fly,
hold fast to the cross of your fathers
and remember the men who will die.
Keep faith with the cross in battle,
it carries the southlands scars,
it cradles the memories of soldiers
who have given their lives for the stars.
Stand fast with the cross of Anzac.
The cross is a mighty sword
that cuts to the core of the maelstrom
and brings fear to the heart of the horde.
